    ***ESCALA Teaching and Research Space Closed***

    Due to unforeseen circumstances the ESCALA Teaching and Research Space will be closed until Autumn term (Oct 2018). This includes research visits and teaching events. Please check back with us in October. We apologise for any inconvenience caused. ESCALA artworks can still be seen in the ESCALA Gallery in the Silberrad Student Centre & in Wivenhoe Park.

    Recent Acquisitions

    As an art collection at the University of Essex we value art that earns its place, tells a story and is committed. Our acquisitions since 2015, by (in alphabetical order) Alberto Baraya, Alejandro Jaime, Sandra Monterroso, Lucía Pizzani, and Eduardo Villanes, are very good examples of this kind of art.

    Loan of two British Museum Maya casts to ESCALA

    The British Museum has loaned ESCALA two Maya casts from the Maudslay Collection to ESCALA.  The two casts are now installed in our Teaching and Research Space, Colchester campus.
