Catalina Chervin (1953 - )

To me, drawing means thought closely tinged with emotion; it is a powerful, mysterious way of going deep into ideas. It is the only way I can delve into a world that I only find as I draw, with the sole aid of pencils, quills and charcoal. Each encounter with an image demands my full commitment to the task; every one of my drawings is a part of my life, as if it were the truest piece of my own self. Because of the truth embedded in such values I think of it as universal, for true art does not merely reflect back on the artist. Drawing is not illustration; I feel that exchanges with other cultures are important for the development of our own image at the same time as they en-form the concept of art every artist should achieve.
