Fernando Traverso (1951 - )

The means of transport most used by students, workers and local militants was, and still is, the bicycle. Many of them were left abandoned after the kidnapping and disappearance of their owners after the terrible war that followed the military coup of March 1976.

I began to work with the image of an abandoned bicycle, at first putting a real bicycle at one side of an art display; then I began to screen-print them using different media, and to paint them on linen in different places.

Perhaps it was because I started to see holes in all the corners of my city that I desired to fill them. And I decided to fill them by asking questions. Because these voids are a quest still unanswered for each one of us.
