Fanny Sanin

The Essex Collection of Art from Latin America commissioned Fanny Sanín to produce No. 1 for ESCALA Artist Editions, established in 2008. This initiative covers the artists' production costs and, where appropriate, includes an element of professional development. All proceeds are returned to the artist and to the Collection to support its activities and further editions.

About the artist

Fanny Sanín(b. 1938, Bogotá, Colombia; lives and works in New York City) created No.1 in New York City before it was printed at the renowned Taller Arte Dos Gráfico in Bogotá. Sanín is considered to be one of Latin America's most distinguished and well-respected abstract painters. She produces her paintings from detailed and intricate sketches and is meticulous in her preparation and application of colour, building layer upon layer to achieve rich and intense compositions. Sanín has lived in New York City since 1971, having studied at the Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, at the University of Illinois at Urbana and at the Chelsea School of Art in London.
